Cala dei Gabbiani or Gabbiani beach has nothing to envy to the other beaches of the Gulf. The others, on the other hand, envy the calm of this beach that is still little known. The name of the Gabbiani beach is recent. Until a few decades ago, in fact, this stretch of beach, together with Cala Mariolu, was referred to solely as “Ispulige de nie“. This beach is very similar to Cala Mariolu: in fact, it is its natural southward continuation, and still preserves its main features: the small white pebbles, the crystal clear waters and the breathtaking scenery.

Its young name is due precisely to the Gabbiani: at dusk, in fact, they still find an ideal refuge in the deserted cove, and they leave it during daytime and fishing hours. The crystalline water, which touches different and numerous shades of green and blue, offers a particular play of lights and colors both in the morning, when the sun is high, in the afternoon and during sunset. The seabed of Cala dei Gabbiani, rocky and sometimes sandy, reflects the sunlight giving incredible shades always different.
Cala dei Gabbiani is located in Punta Ispuligi, not even a mile away from Cala Goloritzé, immediately after the so-called “lovers’ beach” and just before the famous Cala Mariolu. The cove, more than ten meters wide, ends both in the north and in the south with the mountain overlooking the sea. The surrounding cliff is about 500m high at this point, and backs away from the sea. The northern end of the cove is bounded by Punta Ispuligedenie or Ispuligi, once a docking point for loading coal from the surrounding areas by the Tuscany charcoal burners, the “furisteris“.
To the north, Cala Mariolu is located just around the corner, while to the south the beach is completely isolated from the rest of the coast, and we don’t have another beach for about a mile. Cape Monte Santo, a natural border between the Gulf of Arbatax and the Gulf of Orosei, is visible in the distance. There’s a precious underwater life, but that’s not the only one: in fact, the surrounding environment can also easily give the sight of some rare species of birds: the Queen’s Hawk, the Peregrine Falcon, the Cormorant of the tuft, the Golden Eagle, to name some. Finally, it is impossible not to mention the Mediterranean scrub and the typical lush vegetation on the cliff that completes the picture just described. Blue, white and green are the predominant colors.
